If makes it easier for the Waitrose staff to spot your car when they take your shopping out for you

So quite clever really!

The op asked for honest opinions and that’s certainly honest. Just call me Mr Vain, I’ll just call you rude and obnoxious

It’s vain.

Hope that helps.

I honestly didn't mean to hurt anyone's feelings and as some of the responses are very defensive I clearly have.
I am quite surprised that some people didn't realize that having a vanity plate might make people (who don't know them) think that way though.

Looking at it you’re right and although I don’t think I have ever considered myself to be vain I bought mine because it is my name, I wanted it and as much as anything I didn’t want anyone else to have it. Still glad I got it though.

And why is it a vanity plate. We bought ours for special birthdays so will alway have a reminder if the event and will always have it unlike buying an iPad etc which will be out dated in a matter of months and unused not long after.

They have a sentimental value attached due to this and are not for pure vanity

In fairness to the OP they are called Vanity Plates.
I bet the OP that posted the question didn't realise she would open such a can of worms.

Just to up the ante with the judginess, stereotyping, (yes, I'm throwing a hand grenade and ducking back below the parapet for giggles), do various cars attract personalised plates?
One thing that jumps out in the Lake District is 95% of Range Rovers you see have a personalised plate.

But it was the question that was asked.

Your "real" thoughts are exactly that. Not what you might normally tell people you think but what you really think.

This thread is very much like the stealth boasting one with all it's deniable ostentatiousness. Although pplates can be there for reasons other than just showing off, without trying to decipher what the "words" mean, it's easy to just stereotype the owner.

Of course you could say that about a bag or a Rolex watch. But as the marketing goes "it says you more about you... "
