I love Boston. Or how about Philadelphia or Montreal? I quite liked Atlanta too. All on the eastern side and I'm guessing should be easy to get flights to from the UK and then onto Orlando (haven't checked though!).

If you fly into Miami, then how about making a bit of a Roadtrip? After a few nights in Miami, then head down to the Keys for a few nights. You could then head up to Orlando via either coast and stop at different places along the way.

Never been so no Idea of what prices or connections would be like but think it could be cool to go to Washington see the white house, monument, museums etc. Or perhaps try a cruise if you fly into Miami. Plenty of providers depart from the area including Disney cruise line!

New Orleans? Not compatible with starting in Miami though. Drive to key west and back up the gulf coast? Or up theAtlantic coast and stop in Fort Lauderdale, vero beach, up to Daytona, st Augustine etc.

I'll second Toronto if you've not been. Take lunch up the CN Tower, boat trip on the Ontario and a day trip to Niagara.
