Surely virtual queues only work if all rides are virtual and you can only be in 1 queue at a time.

Otherwise there is no "cost" to being in the queue. Normally, a 2 hr standby queue will put a lot, though not all people off. A 2hr virtual queue that you can join while doing other rides, well, why not?! Surely the queue will end up 4,5,6+ hours long?

If all were virtual and only 1 queue at a time, then you would still hesitate about joining a 2 hour virtual queue as the "cost" is that it stops you doing other rides.

Or what am i missing?

They already operate virtual queues for others such as Jimmy Fallon. I think they are just trying to spread the crowd out and allow people to enjoy their day and still experience the ride. I suspect virtual queues will become more and more prevalent if they prove their worth and work.

This is what happens at Volcano Bay - the virtual queues can become insane 180 mins+

But the queue wont be 2 hours it will be more like 4 hours to start with. I assume it is similar to a fastpass as you are given a time to return.

Pleased to hear this. We have 3 full days on site with FOLPs and were debating whether to visit in advance of those just to queue for this ride so as to no waste our FOLP time. No need to now.

I can't remember Universal having wifi... or am wrong? I just remember being there and not having any connection on my phone and refusing to turn on my roaming data... Is this still the case or am I confused? Will be expensive to do if I have to use my roaming data as clearly I will need to make sure I can access the app... again, maybe I'm wrong.

We were thinking of buying Express for this ride but have Universal app on phone and happy that will be able to get a time and plan our day around it, especially as one of us won’t be riding. We were there in September 2018 and found the WiFi fine in both Universal and Islands of Adventure.

Yup there is wifi, it isn't as slick as Disney's in that you need to login a number of times. Being all geeky they don't seem to have roaming setup as well as Disney, probably using different controllers that aren't part of a cluster. The connections are generally fine though.
