Tokyo Suica card - More Than Just Transport
For those going to Japan, a nice list of places / stores that take Suica for payment - places to eat etc.
jreast.co.jp/e/suicamoney/shop.html also, they take them now in most stores in Tokyo Disney Report - need to go to this link via Google chrome if you do not read Japanese. dlove.jp/mezzomiki/tokyo-dis...1xxRXTEQtHKo0E |

Yes I agree - you can also use these at most vending machines which was super helpful as I hardly ever had the right change on me.
I loved my Suica card and was able to use it in so many places (not just public transport) - definitely recommend it!

We intend getting children cards from the airport too (for cheaper fares). They can be used on the disney monorail negating the need for monorail tickets.

Suica cards were a godsend on my recent trip. I didnt use them for purchases etc but for the vast travel on the local lines we did it was so easy using and charging them for each journey. Id recommend them to anyone. Some places you can even get them online in advance and sent to your home address so youre all set before you even arrive.

I like the idea of not having pockets of coins left at end of holiday, as you tend you get them buying smaller things like food and drinks. I have been rather sad, bought my Suica off eBay and added it to my iphone, and also loaded it from a UK credit card as a test. Am ready to go !

Ah thanks.
I see you got yours from eBay, are they easy to get and top up in Japan? Or should you get before?

They are on sale at many train stations and airports, and machines to top them up are in the same places.
Installing it on an iPhone is possible also. If you have a JR Railpass then the use of Suica card, may be redundant, or of little use for travel. I have a JR pass and think my Suica will be mostly used for food / drink type shopping. |
