When to request points to rent...

First timer on points renting, but someone mentioned it on another thread and having looked into it, I'm not sure why anyone does anything other than renting DVC points to stay at a Disney resort.
Am I missing something?

Anyway, looking at September 2020, so should I be waiting until 11 months out (Oct 2019) before I put a request into the Request DVC Points forum?

If looking for a very popular resort, a few days before the 11 months as the person renting may have to book immediately on the 11 month mark, depending if they have anyone wanting to rent out of course
