stray cat attacking other cats ?
Can anyone think of a solution I have 2 babies (well cats really) and they like to go outside but don't really venture out side of the garden. there is a stray cat (we think its stray as on our local face book page around 6 months ago it was the talk on there regarding its terribly matted back a kind lady managed to catch it and cut the lump of matted hair off since the discussion we have come to the conclusion its a stray/feral cat) it comes into our garden at least once a week and trys to start a fight with our cats they start by screaming at each other usually I run out and can stop it. but on 2 occasions one of my cats has been bitten and injured twice in a matter of months the latest been a trip to the vet at a cost of £350.00. a new neighbour behind us as just started to let there timid house cat out ...as its so quiet and peaceful ...hence his cat got attacked by the stray there result was a hospitalized vet stay at a cost with treatment at just under a £1000 any ideas of how or what we could do please as you can hear it fighting with other cats through the night.

Maybe see if a local cats protection charity could help
In our area there is one that will trap cats and vet check/ neuter them if stray Not sure if this would help |

We had this with a local cat when it kept stalking and attacking our elderly one to the point where she wouldn’t go outside unless one of us was with her as it used to pounce on her from garden walls and sheds etc. She used to sit in an open doorway for a while but that was all. The other cat officially lived a few doors down but wasn’t cared for much, not ill treated but not really a pet. All we could do was watch out and chase it away if it came near ours.
Eventually it disappeared but we never knew what happened to it. I think the owners got fed up and got rid of it. |

We have a similar issue. We don’t have a cat ourselves but all of our neighbours do. Our immediate neighbour has a very timid cat who’s venturing out less and less due to this bully!
The other day OH was looking out of the bedroom window and saw it on the fence right underneath him about to pounce so he chucked a big jug of water over it. It’s not been back. I know it’s possibly harsh but this cat is such a troublemaker. *not a stray btw or we’d call someone Edited at 05:45 PM. |

Have tried the water not to hurt it in any way but like you say ...frighten it away so it associates our garden with cold and wet managed to get it a couple of times but not a deterrent im afraid

If you contact your local Cats Protection branch or any other cat charities they should be able to come and trap him. It sounds like he hasn't been neutered and they will check for a chip (he may be lost and trying to fend for himself)and if not neuter him and check him over. If he can be rehomed they will try and do that after trying to find owners.
Good luck! |

I second to get in touch with the Cats Protection, if it is stray it needs a home and they will come and trap it.

We had a stray hanging around beating all the male cats up. Cats protection caught it and neutered it.
My next door neighbour ended up taking the cat in and without his man bits and now he is fed and loved he is much better behaved.

Another vote here for cats protection who will get him off the streets, neuter him and find him a new home.
We had a similar problem with a stray intact tom in the neighbourhood so we befriended him (it took a long time as he was terrified of humans and had quite obviously never been inside!). When he was hit by a car we took him in to the vet, had him neutered at the same time and kept him in for 5 days. Thank goodness he came to us when he was injured instead of hiding out as many strays would do. It took another ten days for his hormones to settle down but one day he came in and sat down and hasn't left since He is now the most placid tabby cat and learning to play with our little black and white. He is learning fast and they are now firm friends (albeit with the odd hiss from Nellie to put him back in his place) He is so grateful to be off the streets that he only ever goes out for a few minutes to do his business and comes straight back in. We are all utterly in love with him |
