Mobile Revolut first use question

I’ve just got a new Revolut card (pre-paid card) and went to use it in a shop. It was declined. The pin number was correct and there was money in the account. Is there something else I should have done to activate the card or anything? I got it a few weeks ago and had it frozen on my app. I took it out of the fancy envelope thing this morning and added money into the account. I only unfroze it as I went to use it - did I need to give it a bit of time before I used it? Any ideas?

It needs activating at a cash machine, in short, just go and draw out £10.00 and then it will work.

I didn’t have to do this. Mine activated by using it the first time with a PIN number and then after that you can use it contactless. It costs you to withdraw money at a cash point.

Think I’ll have to ring them. I’ve just had a look on the faqs and it was less than helpful!

Make sure your security settings aren’t too tight

Open revolut choose cards then pin and security

And see what’s on. I found location based security a bit hit and miss.

Don’t forget to freeze and unfreeze the card before using

Thanks - I checked the security and I don’t seem to have much switched on! I did unfreeze it beforehand, but literally at the till. Is there a bit of a delay - should I have done that earlier?

The phone number on the back of the card is an automated line, no humans. And the live chats are “experiencing high demand” so they can’t help! The faqs are useless! Can someone tell me how I should have the security settings so that I can use the card! Or have any other ideas?

my dad uses his revolut as his main account - he keeps his direct debit money in his bank account and then transfers his weekly spends to revolut and uses that for everything else - he has found that he can't use his in the post office - not sure why not as he can use it everywhere else but the post office always declines. Might be worth trying again in a different shop.

As mentioned it might be worth trying somewhere else! When your card was declined did you get a notification from Revolut? When I unfreeze my card (only when I'm going to use it) I usually have; contactless -on, location -on, swipe payments -off, atm wd -on, online tr -off.

It should be instant when you unfreeze your card but as you did it literally before you used it perhaps if there was a bad wifi/internet connection, it didn't compute quickly enough? Maybe next time unfreeze before you enter the shop?

Another thing to try is check you didn't unfreeze the 'virtual' card instead of the physical card?

Thanks - that’s what confused me the most - I got no notification from Revolut, just the card machine said it was declined.
I finally managed to chat to a real human on their webchat - they’ve unblocked the card and have told me to try it in another shop and if that doesn’t work to try an atm. I’ll give it a go later. Thanks
