Paying for HPV vaccine?

DD asked me yesterday whether it would be a good idea to pay for this vaccine. Evidently you can get it at Boots, £475 for the three vaccines needed.
I said to DD I had absolutely no idea but would ask the Dibb!

What age is your DD? I’m sure our DD got it in school, she’s 18 now so it could have been when she was 14.

I was reading the stats recently on the decrease in cervical cancer since this vaccine and it's really quite remarkable (I work in gynaecology, I'm not just a saddo!), she should be offered it on the NHS though I"m sure?

I think she can have the vaccine up to 25 on the NHS? Maybe ask your gp if she is entitled before you pay x

My daughter had this at school, it’s been given at schools for the last 10-12 years I think, around age 14.

My daughter had it in school. I think I have read that it is only (or maybe mainly) effective if given before the patient is sexually active (although I’m sure poohbears#1fan will confirm)

I also had this in school aged 13 (11 years ago), this was when they started them I believe.

You can only get the virus through being sexually active so it is best to have it before then as the person could have already been exposed.

Yes it is up to 25 for girls, I am hoping they decide boys can have it up to 25 too as my son is 14 and missed out.

Hope so! I didnt know much about it as I think it was introduced shortly after I left school. But if it lowers the risk of certain cancers then all children should be offered it freely. I didnt realise it was for other cancers, not just cervical.
