Rumour - Aer Lingus to possibly set up a Manchester Base
I have read a couple of UNSUBTANSIATED reports that Aer Lingus may open an international base at Manchester airport - the rumours flying (sorry ) around that the destinations may include JFK, MCO and ORD.
Whether this rumour will come to anything remains to be seen especially with the effect that CV is having on airlines and their profits/investment, or the lack of. If I see any more concrete proposals I shall update this thread immediately. Edited at 05:02 PM. |

Think I’d still rather go via Dublin so you can do pre clearance

Well for me it’d be an hour-hour half drive to Manchester versus a 20 minute drive to BHX
For us the shorter the return trip after landing back is a factor. You can never guarantee how long anything takes at any airport from checking in to arrival but landing closer to home will always win for us |

That would be very handy!

Some link to their codeshare with AA possibly?
Not my favourite airline but another option from MAN would be good. 🤞🏻 |

There were also rumours a while back of US Preclearance at Manchester Airport. Maybe they are already aware of steps being made for that to finally happen as well. In which case, that would be wonderful. I love the idea of Pre clearance but there are some issues with it. Namely, having to get to Dublin thereby an indirect flight or an overnight layover in Dublin and also the late flight arrival which almost makes it not worth bothering with.

I could see this being popular as other than VA direct to MCO and TUI to Sanford/Melbourne there is no other player since the loss of TC.

Yes I saw this, looks like they may have secured 1500 slots, enough for 3 direct routes with them being Summer only to Las Vegas, LA and Orlando.
Would be great news, but will wait for confirmation before I get over excited. Hope so though! |
