You always have to do immigration, collect bags and go through customs the first time your feet touch US soil (unless you pre-screened in Ireland or Canada). As soon as you leave customs you'll drop the bags. You don't have to check them in again. It's not complicated, everyone else will be doing the same thing.

I'm doing the same route but from Birmingham (via Amsterdam and detroit). A bit nervous about missing connections but pretty excited about the whole trip! X

You have to clear immigration at your first port of entry in the US so that will be Boston. You get off clear immigration , collect your bags , walk through customs then put your bags back onto a moving belt and they are transferred to your next flight (they will have been tagged to Orlando at your UK check in)

Sorry to sound dumb but is the bag drop after customs obvious for connecting flight? So I literally put them on the belt then we can find our gate and I should have those boarding passes already when we checked in at Newcastle?

We got all our boarding cards from bhx-jfk-mco. Yes the bags are tagged but have to be collected before clearing customs.

The transfer belt is after customs. You will find a member of staff there who direct you.but normally because your bags already have the Orlando tags on them just drop them on the belt and make your way to your gate.

Never flown indirect before. Thanks.

Thanks, kirsty.

It's gonna be a long day! We were booked on to the earlier Detroit flight landing at mco at 20.25 giving us 2 hours in Detroit airport but they changed us and put us on the later flight giving us 4 hours in Detroit! Land about 22.55.

To be honest we aren't bothered as the flights were a bargain and if we didn't have long flight times we wouldn't be going at all.
