It was complicated but we thought nothing of it. You had to add up items costing 4/11 1/2d + 19/9d, + 10/6d for instance. We did not have calculators then it was all done in our heads from a very young age. I was rubbish at maths but could always calculate money!

We had redifusion too (cable tv) 2 or 3 channels plus bbc radio and later radio Caroline. My nannas co-op divvy number was 13139. Weird to think telly’s were rented then. When video players came out we rented that too

I remember taking 2 bobs worth of pennies into the arcade at the seaside and playing the machines for hours.

When you run out, you gave the shove penny machine a shove or three 😂.

At Brownies, we always took ship's halfpennies (not sure how to spell hapenies!) I think it was for a charity.
