De Santis announces tolls to be suspended in Western and Central Florida

Gov de Santis has just announced that tolls in Western and Central Florida/Alligator Alley will be suspended. Signs normally appear near the toll booths to advise of this.

EOA - This takes place from 1030am today.

We are heading on the I75N - the hard shoulder / emergency lane is open for traffic. Seen hundreds of Linesmen Trucks head South, along with generators, and other relief items.

Slightly surreal.

In Sep 2017 I was on one of the first BA flights into Miami after Irma to arrive an empty international arrivals hall with only 1 baggage belt working and literally empty which was strange enough when used to a normally very busy, frantic place.

Next day I had to drive up north from Miami using the Turnpike and for the 4 hours all I saw was the same for the whole time I was driving - a constant nose to tail stream of Linemen Trucks, Generators and National Guard - it literally never stopped as they were heading to the Keys. The service station stops were a sight to be hold.

It was sobering indeed.

A similar event happened when Sanibel Island was hit by Ian.
