We must have been on the one after you - they reduced it to 2 nights, then when we landed (afternoon before the cruise) we had an email to say it was cancelled - all handled very badly by DCL. We spent 2 of our 'cruise days' at POFQ and 2 at BC who thankfully had rooms foe us! We got refunded quickly but the only extra offered was 10% off a cruise before the end of the year - ok if you live over there!

I think you must have been. The organisation wasn't good at all. I think it was the afternoon/evening when they confirmed we would be going, then that it was 1 day extra. Another day or so was added whilst out at sea there. I was very thankful we were in the middle of our holiday rather than the end but it did cause a few issues with our universal stay.

Excited about Disney

We are planning a September trip but after finding all these threads about hurricanes and 10th Sep being the peak I'm not to sure. I went once in September in the 90's as a kid but I cant remember the weather. Me and my DH usually travel, end Oct, Nov or May. How much different if it to those times of years?

We’re tied to Aug/sept for school hols but if we didn’t have to go then i prob wouldn’t. I’d like it cooler where I could stop and look at things more and chill without legging it to air con all the time. I do love the thunder storms though. WDWprepschool do a good calendar that shows busiest times and when there is spring break, cheer comps etc

Getting Excited

I worked in the UK pavilion in Epcot back in 2004... The year WDW closed 3 times due to Charley, Frances and Jeanne! I remember being on shift sand-bagging up all the shops in the pavilion. As far as I recall though it was only about 24-48 hours of disruption each time.
Now i'm going back to WDW with my family this late August into early September. It isn't good news about this year's hurricane season but what's the worst that can happen in terms of your holiday? A day or two spent waiting for storms to pass? You might even get a day in the parks with extremely low crowd levels which is a bonus. Although, clearly you don't want hurricanes/storms to affect the days you fly into Orlando! Not to make light of hurricanes though. Obviously they are a terrible thing which can kill and destroy peoples homes. |

I was there for Dorian- which came to nothing in the end - we left a couple of days early - virgin organised it all then called the night before our earlier flight to say we could actually stay if we wanted to! We had packed everything up so still left early. We were off site so did all the moving of furniture from outside and buying lots of water etc. we are there this year the 26th of Aug to the 9th of Sept - what fantastic planning eh?! But on-site this time. I assume you get looked after for supplies and things by them? I would possibly change dates if I could but don’t think that’s an option - just have to hope it’s all ok and weather forecasts are thier usual unreliable selves - especially this far out 🤞🏻

We were on site in 2021 for Ian - we were staying at Coronado Springs, and the parks closed for a day and a half I think.
The food court did 'hurricane packs' - which were basically sandwiches in a packed lunch type thing for you to take back to your room. They also brought each room a torch and a few of the rooms in lower areas on the ground floor had sand bags placed outside. They did put a curfew on staying in the room but it kept changing, the TV in the room kept updating this tho. The best thing about it was the next day whilst the parks did not open til i think 2pm, the toledo terrace at the top of the destino tower did a 'storm buffet' - it was reasonably priced and delicious - and we'd never afford to eat in there in normal circumstances. ![]() ![]() |
