BA Heathrow Gatwick connections

Is anyone able to talk me through what happens here?

We are flying from Edinburgh to Heathrow then Gatwick Orlando.

We'll be checking in a couple of bags, do these need checked in again at Gatwick or can we use bag drop? Will they have luggage tags to Orlando when we check in at Edinburgh?

Thanks in advance.

Your luggage won’t be checked through. You need to collect it at Heathrow then go through checking it in at Gatwick as if this was your first airport. It’s a bit of a pain but we’ve done it a few times and it’s ok really

So do you actually have to check in again or can you bag drop? Will Edinburgh give us boarding passes to Orlando?

With BA at Gatwick bag drop is a section and you check in online, you should be able to check all the way through then print a new bag tag at Gatwick if needed (working from memory)

Make sure you have long enough to get from Heathrow to Gatwick if the same day
You need to collect bags, get across to Gatwick which is at least an hour. Check in the bags , clear security etc and be at the gate in time.

Yes you will definitely need to collect your bags and check in again. That only works if the connection is at Gatwick i.e. EDI - LGW then LGW to MCO. Make sure you have plenty of time for the connection.

You have 3 hours between landing at Heathrow and departing Gatwick?

That will not be enough
