Border control…..

I really don’t want to get inappropriately political but I have an issue and would appreciate everyone’s thoughts.
We have a WDW trip booked for September. Me, hubby, daughter 24 and son in law 26. The young ones are Disney mad like us but they are heavily tattooed/pierced and somewhat ‘goth’! They have been seeing so much about issues with travellers to USA being detained/deported and they are very very anxious. I do think the anxiety is valid to an extent but I have told them that although I don’t doubt there are isolated cases that are problematic, the coverage on the whole us scaremongering and I feel very confident we won’t have any issues. They are taking some convincing and I don’t want to spend unmentionable amounts dragging them there if they are this worried…what to do?!?!

DW & I also had concerns over our Sept 2025 WDW visit. We broached the subject with our DS who immediately came back with the same concerns except even more heightened than our own, which we didn’t expect. I’ll save going into the concerns themselves.

DW,DS & I collectively agreed that we’d cancel our trip and forgone the deposits paid. WDTC accepted our cancellation with no quibble and refunded everything paid so far barring a £150 per person cancellation fee. The just under £6k it would have cost us felt like it might have been a bit of gamble and in the two weeks since we cancelled, our concerns would only have grown given the news since.

Please don’t take this as I/us wanting to influence anyone else’s holiday decisions and this isn’t a post to try and convince anyone to either not go or to reconsider. Just to know our own thoughts in response to the OPs question and that they are not alone in having such concerns.

Back to everyone’s WDW planning forum 🙂

Not sure if I’ve missed something but the only news I’ve seen of people being detained is due to having incorrect documents (eg working visas). If everything is correct why would they worry?

The OP may be referring to the case of the German tattoo artist, who despite having correct papers was detained travelling from Mexico into the US.

Has your daughter & SIL got an ESTA if so they are go to go
Doesn’t matter whether you’ve got 2 heads you’ll soon be in Disney ❤️🇺🇸

We've just returned from a trip, we don't have any visible tattoos but my partner's always concerned about entering/leaving the US with the kids as we're not married so we don't all share the same name - because she'd read the horror stories. It's never been a problem for us, and if anything this time around we found the officers on both entry and exit to be more sociable than previous visits - interacting with the kids about Disney, their favour characters, talking about the new cub at Animal Kingdom etc, we've never had that before.

It might not be as straightforward anymore. I saw this a while ago on Facebook.

I think that is just reffering to single parents on their own having a letter from the other parent giving consent, which has always been the case, but before has not always been asked for!
