Not pre-booking seat on the plane?

Will this cause me any issues? With me going solo I didn't really feel the need to pre-book my seats. Just logged in to manage my flight (6 weeks tomorrow) and there's only 3 seats for me to pick anyway.

Just double checking that if the flight is overbooked that I won't automatically be bumped because I haven't paid to choose the seat?

I never pre-booked seats when solo, and never had an issue. I only pre-book nowadays as got separated from partner on an Orlando flight a few years back, which was a real pain. There seems to be more pressure to pay for stuff you shouldn't have to, nowadays.

I do now prebook seats (on long hauls only), but only the exit row seats and for the leg room.

We don’t prebook. We are all adults and will probably be split up but that’s ok.

Unless you are getting extra leg room I don’t feel like there is much difference in the seats for a solo traveller anyway.

I prebook as a solo person as I want a window seat thats all if I was happy to sit in the middle of a row I wouldn't but I like the comfort of looking out of the window.

We haven't pre booked the last few trips with Virgin, and all been sat together automatically in economy delight.

If you aren't fussed with a particular seat, I wouldn't bother paying extra.

Depends on airlines for us. As some let you move at checkin so if you checkin bang on time can take your pick.

others like TUI just allocate you a seat

I’ve just caved and paid as when I looked there were only a handful of £25 seats left and they were scattered. Previously we’ve always been near each other even if we weren’t next to each other.

I grabbed some extra space seats which were expensive but hopefully worth paying for.

I’ve done a mix - connecting flights.

Outbound - very tight connection so booked the front of economy, the bulkhead. Need every second so wanted to be as far forward as could possibly be.
Domestic leg - booked a “free” seat - ie the back of the plane. Window or aisle are fine, don’t like a middle but AA has 3 levels of seating prices(expensive, not so expensive, free) in economy and that leg is only just over an hour so happy with the back.

Inbound: again a connection, so first leg (the domestic leg) have paid for the front row of economy.
Second leg - booked a “free” seat then decided to splash on the exit row window so I have the wall to lean on for the red eye but easy access out.

It depends how bothered you are. But you won’t get bumped for not booking 😃 My friend works for an airline and their “bumping” is more often down to final person to check in if it gets past the point of volunteers etc.
