We thought hiring was expensive … bought a decent buggy from Walmart for $35 ish dollars and gifted it to the hotel desk when we left …

Just buy one there that suits your kid.
The Rental cost will match or exceed the cost a anyway.

We bought a cheap secondhand one (we need a double) to take with us. We looked at the options of buying there or hiring there from one of the companies but buying one for £20 here worked out much cheaper; the only pain was having to cart it to and from taxis at the airport (we checked it in with our cases in a stroller bag).

I think it'll work out cheaper to buy one there, as the cost of hire ends up being quite expensive sometimes. We ended up bringing our own double last year, and will do the same this year. The only reason we're able to do so though is because we're getting a lift from someone with a bigger car than us to the airport! Otherwise we'd need to get one over there. I had priced up a few rental places last year and it definitely seemed to work out cheaper to buy one if we needed it. Also, some of the companies that do airport drop off seemed to only do so up until 6pm, and our flight didn't land until then.

We won’t be taking ours so unsure whether to hire one (I’ve seen we can pick one up for hire at the airport) or whether to pop to Walmart and buy one.

We are staying in a villa and flying into Tampa if it helps amd my son is 3yrs. I wouldn’t want a flimsy umbrella stroller, they’re awful to push and not particularly
comfortable.
We have taken our daughter to WDW at 3 and 4 for 2 weeks and then to Paris at 4 and 5 and bought a Joie Nitro travel stroller for around £40 or £50 before the first WDW visit.

A few marks on it but still generally as good as new. Folds up so quickly and easily and very easy to push / manouevre in crowds as it has two handles rather than a bar.

Fully reclines also and easy for them to jump in and out of when in more of a hurry.

Imo much easier to push than those which can be hired in the parks and those that people hire seemed expensive and quite numb by comparison

We have rented the last couple of times as we needed a double pushchair. The rental companies normally have Baby Jogger City Mini prams which are excellent, easy to push and collapse. They have a large sun shade and can cope with older children that might need a rest. We have used both Kingdom Strollers and Orlando Stroller rental and no complaints with either.

You’ve all given me a lot to think about. We have a “holiday” stroller we bought off marketplace to go to Fuerteventura I’m just not sure we’ll fit it in our car to get to the airport with luggage which was why I was considering renting. Perhaps I need to get the cases out and do a quick fill if the boot.

If it's because of space whilst travelling to the airport can't it go on somebody's lap or by their feet?

When we went with our twins when they were almost four we decided we wouldn't need them as they hadn't been in a pram in over a year. They lasted minutes without one, we hired one in the park on the first day and next day went to Walmart for two cheapie umbrella fold ones. When we went back when they were six we bought two cheap ones from here (again the umbrella fold ones) thinking they would come in handy in a "cannot walk too tired emergency". They sat in them whenever they could get away with it, they were an absolute god send! Even though they were cheap and flimsy they were more than up to the job. The twins will be nearly 17 when we return this year ... to be honest I think they'd still like to be pushed about if they could get away with it!
