DAY TWO (30/8) - Part Two – AN AMBASSADORIAL WELCOME!

It’s late afternoon and we are thirsty. Darrin heads over to one of the carts and returns with two bottles of what appear to be iced tea. Maybe if we had looked more closely at the labels we would have realised that the drink in the bottle was not made from actual tea. Barley tea, or Mugicha as it is known in the East, is made from roasted barley. It’s not alcoholic and the only way I can describe the flavour is if I took two Weetabix, slightly burned them in a toaster and then liquidised them with water – well that’s what it tastes like! Apparently it’s very popular – but not with us!

We head back to the bus park which is located to the right as you exit the turnstiles. We make sure that we get our hands stamped for re-admission this evening for the night time parade. The over – Mickeyed bus takes us back to the Ambassador Hotel where we call at the front desk to receive our room cards. Our room is #5112 on the fifth floor and our cases and bags are waiting for us when we get there. Now I should mention at this point that tipping (apart from taxis) is not expected in Japan. Should you leave money on a table in a restaurant you’ll find the server comes running after you to return it. Likewise porters, bar staff etc. do not expect any tip either. It’s so refreshing.

We do a quick unpack, throw ourselves in the shower and sort out new clothing for the evening. Our T shirts were soaking when we returned to the hotel. I did say humidity was 98%.

As the evening cools a little we return to Tokyo Disneyland. The parade at 8p.m. is called Disney’s Electrical parade- Dream Lights.
As I take our spot at the Elias Hotel in Westernland (their name for Frontierland) Darrin goes off in search of food. He returns with slices of pizza and a tub of salad. I have a Coke to drink whilst Darrin chooses Kirin Lemon. Kirin are the big drinks manufacturers in Japan. We settle down and CMs drum up some excitement with songs and clapping. The Japanese are not quick to clap in public so it’s us foreigners that participate the most.
The parade starts like the well - known Main Street Electrical Parade with the hoedown music but soon it changes to become the dream Lights parade beloved by the Japanese.

We stroll back through the park and the castle is illuminated against the night sky.



We purchase ice cream – I have a tub of Mango sherbet and Darrin choses Almond crunch. We get back around 9:30p.m. tired but happy and our heads hit the pillows and we drift off into slumber.

It’s our first full day tomorrow so we need as much strength as we can muster.
