If where you're staying has a clubhouse you may be able to leave your luggage there

As OP says it is $10 per head if you are not in one of the free categories. IMO well worth doing as you get rid of your bags, so no lugging them out of the car rental garage and no leaving them in the car.
Ok, think we will do this as we intended going to Disney springs anyway.

Never been so can someone direct me to the watermelon from driving in?

We have used VA check in at Disney Springs (we had VA flights only, not a VH package) and it was well worth the $10pp fee in my opinion. We only hired a small car as there's only 2 of us, which meant only 1 case fit in the boot and the other had to go on the back seats. For peace of mind it's worth doing if you are able to.

You can store your cases free for the day at orlando baggage storage as long as you collect them before closing at 6 pm

For the money it's well worth doing it.
It's easy to find too as it is at the end if DS...opposite end to marketplace and where Cirque du Soleil, House of Blues

If you look on Google Maps it is marked there, but as OP says it is the opposite end to Market Place.

Watermelon is a surface car park (as opposed to a garage) and if you head to the CdS building and try and park close it is not far to move your luggage.
