Honestly I’m really thorough and DH checks through the answers and I do read the ? but I thought these were helpful tips if you didn’t understand the question, I thought I understood the question and couldn’t go wrong with a First name ha ha. At least we know now and I will see what they say. I know I have to do the 4 again which is a pain but I might upload the passports this time. I would still make sure the data has gone in properly though. I really, really don’t like doing them they bring me out in a cold sweat
Can’t believe how quick your surprise trip has come around! Did you keep it secret fr9m him and did you book Dylan’s tour?
Yes he still doesn’t know a thing about it it’s killing me!
I’ve arranged the time off with his boss as he’s on work placement from uni, so that’s Grand, & yes I’ve booked the Dylan’s famous tour my son is called Dylan too! So that will be fab! Just waiting for Alcatraz tickets at 90 days, & were all set..well when I re-do his esta😩

Will I still need to redo?
Unfortunately yes, a lot of us in the same boat. The change came about in October even though it doesn’t warn you about it, it’s just if you happen to click the ? over first name given that it tells you.

Has anyone travelled on an "old" esta with no middle name since the changes came in? I have 2 trips due this year, our estas were granted back in March and we travelled on them in August (no middle names needed) and I wasn't planning to change them as they are still valid for best part of a year, but don't want to be turned away cos of no middle name!

I applied for our ESTA's last week and missed the middle names too. I've just gone on to the ESTA application website and clicked the ? and even with what i now know it is still confusing. It does not actually ask for the middle name just first given name. My interpretation is if you have a double barrelled first name you would but both down.

I've just looked again and it clearly says that if your middle name appears in the given names section of your passport, that it needs to be included. The response from an email to CPB also confirms this. Someone else has also contacted them, so it will be interesting to see what their reply says and they're going to share it once they hear back.

Apparently ESTAs issued before the change are fine without a middle name. Post change, the middle name should be included. What we dont know is:
1. The date of the change and when this new requirement came in to force.
2. What would happen if you missed your middle name after the change came in to force.
It's just all a bit of an unknown quantity at the moment

We are off to New York next month and I did our ESTAs in October. I didn't add our middle names. I am going to email and find out exactly the date this was implemented and also if ours personally are valid. I shall let you all know the outcome

That would be great, especially if we can get a date too

So I have re applied for mine adding my middle name in and I have applied for my son as he has just got a new passport but they are both pending. I’ve logged out and logged back in several times. Is this happening to anyone else? The others that I did in November came up approved instantly. A bit worried. Thanks
