I have had a look at this. I suspect she was aiming at irony and also pointing out throwing things at people is pathetic. However. It was misplaced and didn’t achieve my interpretation of what she intended. I’m not a fan of her so not defending. But also don’t think she was (meaning) to infer what her actual words said. Foolish for someone with such on air experience.

I’m not a fan of nasty comedy but appreciate it has its place. Problem is there’s a lot of fanatics about, who could be enticed into following her suggestion. I’ve been near Farage, it is intense even in a friendly crowd. Honestly if I were him I’d be constantly worried, and that was surrounded by parliamentary security. There’s always a danger some fanatic will have a go. Remember Jo Cox, that fanatic didn’t need much encouragement, and that happened very close to us.

I gasped silently when I heard this. I can't make even a hair's breadth of allowance to concede this was humour in any way shape or form.

Jo Brand does not deserve the same punishment as Carol Thatcher and Danny Baker.

They both made racist comments, one about a baby.

Jo Brand made a joke about Nigel Farage being hit with a milkshake. And decried the action.

If every joke made at the expense of a political figure is to be referred to the police, our democracy is a perilous state.

Don't see the democracy link.

I'm sure you do - imagine if the police investigated you for saying that you thought that Boris Johnson was a buffoon (for example).

Not only would the prisons be even more massively over-populated, we would not be able to speak about politicians openly and democracy would die.

Is that not freedom of speech?

Is that not what Jo Brand should have?

The poster was possibly suggesting that the police intervention in a joke about a politician could result in the death of democracy as you (the population, not you individually) would not be able to voice your opinions good, bad or comedic about 'a' politician without fear of reprimand.

Am I the only one who when seeing the milkshake incident on the news think that it could have be far worse? I don't believe that Jo Brand has suddenly put the idea into anyone's head, it was a bad joke gone wrong in my eyes.
