I've just (well half an hour ago) booked with Virgin on pre-release.

We have booked DIY previously, but the quote they gave us was very competitive, too good to say no to actually so I've paid my deposit and hope that my Room type is available when Disney release free dining on 19th April.

Did she say something about Disney saying they would have a very strong offer?
Yes that's it. She did indeed

Just a thought... Are VH not falling into bit of a trap offering pre-sale free dining for 2019 ?

ie - Virgin quote you £X amount based on today's price for a WDW trip without dinning and saying that once free dining is released they will book it for you ? or chucking the price subject to change excuse in for all the presale bookings...?

Surely free dinning is not free, is it not a case of when Disney release free dinning they just put the prices up £x% amount or remove any form of current discounts and charge a full rack price amount to cover this "freebie"

Virgin do have a get out clause with the "subject to change " in the quotes they give out.

Nope. Free dining is free. Many Disney hotel prices go down when free DDP is on offer.

Really ? Nothing is free with the word Disney in it... Do you mean the hotel room price with free dining brings the price down or room only prices reduce ?

Anyone know of any comparison sites with historical data ?

Loves2plan has the figures going back about 5 years and they do indeed show that dining is free and any increase in price is very slim, often there is a decrease. The prices currently showing on the Disney site for 2019 are the rack rates with only a small discount if you buy tickets as part of the package. Our package for last year was the same at rack rate as it was once free dining was released.

Free dining is free. There are currently no discounted prices for 2019 bookings, except for a tiny ticket discount, but that's nowhere near the value of free dining. The offer that comes out this month (hopefully free dining) will be the first real offer for 2019 bookings, so there are no discounts to remove.

A number of us track prices pre free dining and during free dining. Prices don't suddenly jump up. A few resorts may rise slightly, but certainly not enough to cover the cost of free dining, and some even go down!

Another dibber, Loola30, posted the prices on a different free dining thread:
These are the prices in January 2017, for 11 nights in August 2018 pre DDP release. The second set of prices are from April 2017, for 11 nights in August 2018 post DDP release:

All Star Music - £1606 / £1320 (17.8% LESS)
All Star Sports - £1606 / £1320 (17.8% LESS)
All Star Movies - £1628 / £1650 (1.35% MORE)
Art of Animation - £1716 / £3817 (can only see suites at the moment...)
Pop Century - £1728 / £1639 (5.15% LESS)
Caribbean Beach - £2222 / 2112 (4.95% LESS)
Coronado Springs - £2222 / £2112 (4.95% LESS)
Port Orleans FQ - £2288 / £2409 (5.29% MORE)
Port Orleans Riverside - £2288 / £2409 (5.29% MORE)
Animal Kingdom Lodge - £3883 / £3718 (4.25% LESS)
Wilderness Lodge - £4092 / £4125 (0.81% MORE)

VH in Braehead (Glasgow) are doing quotes for 2019 with free dining included. I would have got one but the place was packed out and l wasn’t waiting 60 minutes to speak to an advisor
