Universal Hotels and front of the line pass

Could anyone please explain to me how this works?

I read on one of the trip reports that they checked in at 8.30am and got given their room key straight away and were then able to get front of the line access to the rides.

But what happens on the second day, what time is check out? Can you keep your key all day to keep getting front of the line access?

Any help would be appreciated, as we are possibly considering this instead of the universal express pass, especially as the night we would stay coincides with DM birthday.

Even though you have to check out of your room you FOTL key card is valid until the parks close on your departure day.

the keycard are throwaway so they don't ask for them back when you check out, so thats how you get to use the card for the 2nd day...well that's what i have been told.

You are given your room key(a credit card type) when you arrive but it won't be activated to open your room until the room is ready. On your day of departure the room would be given a new code so the card would be useless.

They have your accommodation dates on the card and can be used until the parks close on your day of departure.

We did this in April, staying at the Portofino Bay. We arrived at around 7.45am to check in. The receptionist explained, as we checked in, that our rooms were not yet ready but she would issue us with the keys to allow us FOTL access. We were then asked if we wanted the keys to be able to charge items to the room in the Parks.
We were then directed to the luggage room, where we deposited our overnight bags.
By this time, it was around 8.20am and we strolled to the Launch to take us to US. We had a fantastic day : we queued, at most, 10 minutes for each and every ride and had a long and very leisurely lunch at the sit down restaurant near Jaws. By 4 pm, we had completed every ride and headed back to the hotel (again, by Launch).
On the second day, we had breakfast at 8am then strolled to the Launch to go to IoA. Again, we chose our rides according to what we wanted to do rather than by the queues. For example, we did Spiderman three times in a row. We also had an amazing lunch at Mythos followed by four trips on the Flying Unicorn!
By 5pm, we had completed IoA and headed back to the Portofino Bay, where we had coffees and pastries followed by drinkies while we watched the opera performance.
At around 8pm, we drove back to the villa.
This was, undoubtedly, the highlight of the holiday and I would wholeheartedly recommend it. It is expensive but it it such a totally luxurious and relaxing way to "do" Universal that it is well worth the money

I think that this is a great idea, and one that we'll consider in our next trip, thanks for the info as I wasn't sure how it all worked either
