Gulf Coast help

Flying into Orlando in August, spending one night at WDW before heading down the Gulf Coast. We really like Naples and want to stay there but I am concerned that ten nights there may be too much and am thinking of another place to stay. It is just the two of us, just a smidge over 50 and we enjoy eating out and watching wildlife. I see AMI has come up a lot but I think it may be too sedate for us, I could lay on a beach all day but DH likes to be on the move a lot. Can anyone suggest another centre or is Naples going to be ok for 10 nights?

I think in Naples and the surrounding areas there will be plenty to keep you occupied and entertained. As well as Naples itself (which has a lovely beach and pier, as well as loads of nice restaurants and bars, Tin City, dolphin / Dinner / sunset cruises and loads of Malls and shops) you are also within easy driving distance of Sanibel and Captiva Islands, Ft Myers beach, The Everglades, Edison & Ford Museum, downtown Ft Myers and loads more! Ding Darling Nature reserve and Lovers Key are both great for nature excursions and Captiva Island is world famous for shell collecting and the most amazing sunsets.

As an option to Naples have you thought about Rotonda West? It's half way between Sarasota & Fort Myers. The villas are beautiful and the area is peaceful & laid back ...Old Florida style. That said, there is plenty to do in the area and there is a great choice of restaurants & bars. St Armond Circle & Sarasota within easy reach.
The beaches are beautiful with Boca Grand topping the charts with visitors. All the usual beach / sea activities available. Busch Gardens is an hour away if you are a thrill seeker and Myakka State Park is a nature lovers delight.
There is a choice of 2 shopping outlets ( Ellenton & Mirromar )both 1 hours drive away and a mall in Port Charlotte with Dillard's, Macy's etc only 20 mins away.
There are two Dibb villas on Rotonda West and if you look in the guide book you will find lots of information.

Naples would be ok for 10 nights as long as you are prepared to do some research and you are happy to drive.

Thank you everyone so much for all your help. We're going to have a lot of daytrips organised and a few days on the beach and shopping

We did a day trip down to Key West on the ferry from Fort Myers, it wasn't our intention when we went to Naples but I'm glad we did it
