I used to think that way - why was I writing stuff and people weren't commenting. Seems many enjoy reading reports but don't feel they need to make any comment. Look at the view numbers - that will tell you how many actually went to your post. I think those that are likely to do the same trip / area as you've done are more likely to chip in with an observation. We always photograph our meals. We have been asked twice if we were working for a magazine or something.

I agree with your tips, the photos always help me when writing our trip reports. It's great fun to do, I enjoy travel writing too. I do enjoy reading your reports Geoff, loved the recent Barcelona one. We are visiting Venice in the summer so may try to write one about Venice and put on here when we return as I have only attempted US ones so far.

I read loads before I went on my first trip last May and they were all so helpful and insightful. I wrote one about my trip too and it is a great way of remembering your holiday, it’s nice to look back and read.

I always try to comment when I read after having read on here, many years ago, that someone was feeling disheartened by the lack of comments and they weren't sure whether to carry on writing.
From then on I always try and comment when I read. I have a backlog of comments to send at the minute though as I have been reading on my lunch break where there is only just time to grab a sarnie and read a day, but not to comment- so I have 5 people to comment on (but I've made a note)!

I love reading trip reports - big thank you to everyone who does it! I used to read and not comment, but also saw a few people mention how disheartening that can be, so am much better at commenting now. Have started one myself about our half term trip to DLP, they do take quite a lot of work! Fun to relive it all though.

Even if no one else reads them, I love having them to look back on myself, especially on a dull day with no holiday in prospect. Obviously I also love it when people are kind enough to comment.
We’ve picked up so many good ideas from reading other people’s trip reports, both for places to eat and for things to do.

I don’t think I have read your previously but just had a look and I am sure people did enjoy them. Nice structure and loads of pictures, especially of food.
When I am reading one where somebody has added new days on same thread, I find paging past loads of comments to the next instalment tedious. |

I love reading others' trip reports too, they help me get through the days when I'm not at Disney! But it is also really interesting to see how other folk tour Disney parks (and other theme parks), and I love watching how their kids grow up over the years of trip reports.
I wrote so many over the years that I eventually self-published them on Amazon. I'm currently trying desperately to find time to get our October 2017 TR finished so that I can publish book 4! Mine tend to be very long, very detailed, and don't include photos so I guess that can limit my readers somewhat, as I know a lot of people like a photo-heavy report. I like reports with humour in them, so try to write lots of funny bits in mine too. They are also a 'warts & all' type of report - if things go wrong, people fall out, etc., it all goes in the report. This caused a massive family row when I published book two and my sister and parents read it, but we eventually cleared the air and whilst I don't think they forgave me for it, at least the book stayed intact! As others have said, it is also a way of looking back at what we did over the years, and the way the theme parks themselves change and develop, with changes to the live shows, fireworks, parades, etc. They will also live on as memories made with different people in my life, which is lovely.

I now feel really guilty as I love trip reports and have got so much inspiration from them for our first trip but I have never left a comment to say thank you or how much I loved the report
I will make sure to comment or like reports from now on as they are so helpful and interesting to read |
