I phoned about a hospital appointment and said I would take a cancellation if they had one and I could come on the same day if needed. I got a very quick appointment, it does work.

No we can't go private as were told the consultant at the hospital we saw wants to see the whole process himself.
I tried calling before and due to confidentiality they can't discuss with me

You can still call the secretary and say that you know she/he can’t discuss your DH but explain he’s self employed, in so much pain, depressed, losing money etc, and just say he’s willing to take any cancellation for the MRI. If they won’t listen to you pass the phone to your DH.

DH has had issues with his elbow over the years. He initially had a floating bone. It was picked up on an mri. They decided he needed an operation to remove it, however the op was several months after the mri, it was meant to be keyhole but the bone had moved and they had to search for it under GA. He ended up with a 4/5” scar and off his work for several weeks, luckily in those days he was employed. The bone where the spur knocked of grew again over the intervening years, and probably made worse (wear and tear) that he now has multiple loose bones floating in his right arm. His elbow locks occasionally when one of the pieces gets trapped. It’s his right arm, he’s right handed and works manually, also like your DH self employed (and employs anything from 4 up to 8/9 people). He’s been told this time off work for 8 wks and no manual work for anything up to 6 months! He’s just putting up with it. There’s no way he can take that much time off and his business can’t run without him being there. I feel your pain. It’s not easy being self employed.

Ring and ask if your DH can authorise you to act on his behalf. They would need him to confirm this, either verbally on the phone or in writing, but afterwards they should be able to discuss everything with you
