I would go for Edinburgh flight.
When you take into account the 45 minute additional travelling (which you have to do twice) there is only just over an hour saved in arriving home. With a favourable tail wind you should make the GLA connection, but any delay and you will have an extra long wait in Gatwick. Also you save £100 flying to EDI

Booked the edinburgh option. 2400 for 4 of us with an SUV through avis for 21 days and a night in RPR. could have been a wee touch cheaper but I chose avis over budget

If you did miss the GLA flight due to late in bound you could always ask to be put on the EDI flight if there was room.

Thanks but we leave the car in airport parking so wouldn't have worked out. Good idea if we had been using a taxi service though
