Not wanting to criticise or doubt Poppy’s doctors being ventilated and having steroids doesn’t necessarily lead to cerebral palsy and/or learning difficulties. Ethan was fully ventilated for 17 weeks after he was born and then on CPAP for 3 months and then when he eventually came home he was still on oxygen via a nasal canular (btw he went to nursery with that ! ) He was also given steroids regularly so much so that they actually stunted his limb growth so we have photos of him looking really funny with what appears to be a big head and body and these little arms and legs. Don’t worry though he caught up during puberty and is now taller than me

As for the learning difficulties I already posted Ethan did struggle and miss milestones but this is how it was explained to us. The reason for their learning difficulties is because when they are born the most important task their tiny premature brain can do is keep them alive. They literally can’t do anything else a full term baby would like start to learn. A full term baby is like a sponge and just soaks up all this new information and starts to process it, a premmie baby can’t do that as they are just trying to stay alive.

Don’t worry to much or read too much into what the doctors say. They have to prepare you for the worst possible outcome.

Thinking of Poppy and sending you all tonnes if positive thought xxx. My beautiful son was born at 32 weeks. Stayed in hospital for 4 weeks even thou we were told it would be 8 weeks. He was the tallest boy on the line on first day at school. He is now 16 and 6ft 2 and I am so proud of him.
Hang in there ..we are all rooting for her xxx
