Help please - BA won’t help

We booked flights for June next year but due to some bad news we have received today we are now unable to travel. I have contacted BA to see if we can move the flights to September but have been informed that we would be out of the 365 day window for travel so they cannot help. Is there anything else I can do to try and salvage things and get our flights moved?

Cancel and claim off your travel insurance if bad news qualifies.

Is your tickets non refundable I.e. the cheapest possible?

Yes the cheapest option but this is from the BA website: Changes to your ticket
Time/date changes permitted at any time before each flight departure for a change fee of GBP 150 or an upgrade fee of GBP 150 plus any difference in fare. All sectors may be repriced. Changes subject to availability. Fees apply per ticket. We therefore thought subject to a fee we could change the date.

Have you booked flights only or a package (ie flight and car/hotel)? Just asking as if it’s a package you just lose the deposit for cancelling. Not sure I understand what the relevance of the 365 days is, you can book September 20 flights, so they should be able to help. Might be worth phoning again and hopefully speaking to a more helpful person.

If the only reason you can't book later is because lol th 365 days can you not wait till later to change the flights ?

You should definitely be able to change the dates. We considered it last year and spoke to someone to find out the additional cost but in the end we just kept the flights we had.

We booked the flights on 30 June 19 for a flight out on 3 June 20, due to some unexpected news we cannot now go in June and wanted to change our tickets to Sept 20 but having now spoken to 3 different people at BA they won’t budge, saying the tickets cannot be extended beyond a year ☹️ I have learnt a very expensive mistake my fault should have checked before booking

I think usually with BA you cannot move the dates more than 365 days from the date you booked them not
hence why you cannot book September 2020, you can move out to 30 June.

The best place to ask what your options are about moving your flight is the BAEC forum on flyertalk.

Cancel and then claim back from your travel insurance... and please don't say you haven't any as flights or accommodation should never been booked without first taking out insurance.
