Good news for Bill! Hope his tablets are working
I have just been back to the vets with our dog, she is going down to 1 tablet a day now The vet is giving me a private prescription for £12 and then I can buy the tablets cheaper online |

If they work that will be the way to go I think Hopefully my insurance will pay out for yesterday. I've already checked out the price online. We live approx 45-50 min round trip from the new vets so it makes sense to get them delivered online. So far so good fingers crossed.
Out of interest how many tablets are on the script at a time. Bill's maintenance dose would be half a 16mg tablet a day. Edited at 06:33 PM. |

I haven’t got the prescription yet but the vet said I could have a 1 month one or a 3 month one
To maintain the tablets are 5.4mg once a day |

I’m so glad you’ve found a vet that you and Bill have confidence in. Fingers crossed it is onwards and upwards for Bill!
Since you posted about Bill, we’ve had issues with our Cocker’s ears and we are trying an elimination diet, where she just eats lamb - so lamb meals and 100% lamb treats, we can’t give her anything else. Trying it for 6-8 weeks and hoping we have less scratching and no new issues.

3 months worth would be good. The dose is weight related so she gave us 16mg tablets that he takes a half twice a day for 15 days then half a tablet for maintenance. Hes had 3 doses now and hes nowhere near as itchy scratchy unsettled. Too early to tell if his new diet is having an impact yet. Think we will continue with all of the above anything to keep him settled and comfortable. I've got a shampoo to wash him in twice a week from the vets too. Trying to get into the routine of cleaning him down after every walk outside. I think his ears have hurt for so long it's trying to build up trust again when hes handled and wiped.

I am glad the drugs are working but please don't use these Long term. I know of people who have had awful issues with this drug. I refused to get it for my bestie, I had him allergy tested and the insurance paid for it we have cut out chicken and it has really helped with his ears and paws.

I've read up on it and yes long term side effects are not great. I've switched him onto a hypo allergenic diet cutting out lots of known irritants. No chicken dairy grain etc. Will see how he goes for now and review as needed. The vet did say allergy testing will bring up a list of things that I'd be able to avoid thro diet others not so easy to manage. I've come to the conclusion this is an allergy house. DD is allergic to loads of things she did say I guess Bill and I have similar problems.
