Oh interesting. I was wondering this. Thanks

The same will happen if you have a $200 gift card with your booking - you need to pick it up from World of Disney at Disney Springs. Basically they want you spending money!

I don't have a free MB with my booking. Planning to use my phone to open the door the day we arrive, and I'll buy a MB when I see one I like.

That's all well and good but I don't want my phone to run out of battery after a few hours running apps that I don't need to. Magic band will do fine and they have always charged for them (a part from when you got then free staying onsite) anyway so that's nothing new.

Thanks everyone, I’m going to hang on to see if it comes back. I did live chat to ask but unsurprisingly they didn’t know anything!

If it's like the DLR MaxPass, you have your entire group on one phone. So you'd scan yourself in, then swipe to the kids passes. Not saying it's convenient at all. But it's not locked to an individual the same way a MB is.

I don't think Disney wants guests to stop using MBs either, since all the tech is already in place and they can keep releasing new designs for purchase. They just wanted to stop having to give them away for free.

I've just booked ours. They might do the offer again but I want to get parks days booked for Xmas and didn't really want the hassle of going to pick magicbands up. We'll take our old ones and hope they still work and if not will buy new ones. I've paid for flex plus tickets so we can cancel for any reason not just covid.

The "Mickey to Mickey" tapping function will always work unless your band (more specifically, the Mickey head icon) is broken or deactivated - you can check they're still active in MDE. So room key, park entry, FP queue entry, etc should be fine with any magic band, even the old style ones.

It's only the long range chip that depends on the battery so may stop working after a couple of years. This is only currently used for things like auto-adding ride photos to Memory Maker or displaying your name in interactive queue lines.

Thanks, yes we'll have to check it on the auto adding rides.
