Car hire sounds horrendous at MCO

Just seen this on Facebook:

“Two hours of waiting in line at a rental car counter at MCO. We moved maybe 20 feet. Half of the rental car companies have ran out of cars. One guy working the counter at Avis. Everyone that made it to him complained that the car they were given was not the one they reserved. I’ve never seen anything like it. It should be illegal. We finally gave up and took an Uber. Our flight landed 2.5 hours ago and we are still 30 minutes from the hotel. Unless you absolutely need a car, I’d come up with a plan B. At one of the counters, dude just put a handwritten sign up that said “No Cars” and just turned off the lights and peaced out. With at least 20 people in line. It was like the Hunger Games.”

Not a great start to a holiday 🙁
Hopefully it will ease off, isnt this their ‘busy summer period’ - i thought they wouldve got more cars in for the rush following last fiasco!

They sold the cars off to stay in business and 4000 parked ones burnt in a field in Florida also I read. New cars are in short supply.

This is very worrying for us we are booked for September only 2 of us but absolutely have to have the car (7 seater minivan) we have booked due to our mobility problems and needing to load and unload our 2 mobility scooters, we have to fold the two rear rows of seats. If we can't have the car we booked it would be pointless going on the trip as we would be unable to go anywhere.

Just looking to book for December, I am either getting no cars available or astronomical prices for the 12 nights we will be there. Not sure what I am going to do at present as Orlando is meant to be a short stop before we start our mini road trip.

Hi YT, I read the reported tale from FlyerTalk of the chap who claimed there was circa 300 in the MCO car hire queue. The police arrived and at that point the car supplier advised they had no vehicles. Some pooh poohed and said it was urban myth doing the rounds.

Concerning for those arriving, hire contract in hand, to be told there's no cars available. State 27, who lives in Orlando has commented on the situation, as has a lady who's hubby works for an MCO car supplier.

I had similar troubles personally in LA, I ended up getting a car in Santa Monica BUT it was the last one they had and they were then turning people away. (This week) family of 7 with a guy in a power wheel chair left with no transport behind me
