Keys or Anna Maria Island
Hi
I'm after some advice on a trip outside of the Orlando area. We're planning on 5 nights at Universal then the rest of the 2 week break elsewhere. Our plan was to go to Miami for a couple of nights then a week at the Keys. However I'm really tempted by a trip to Anna Maria island. Would 4 nights at the Keys be enough then we can do 3 nights at AMI? Any advice is welcome and we're open to other ideas if people think there's other places we shouldn't miss. Many thanks. |

No advice either but following as we're thinking of going next year...I have 2 children (they'll be 11 and 4 when we go) and not sure where the best places to visit would be for them (outside of Orlando)? I was thinking of AMI and the Keys. I notice you're from Gateshead - I'm from Sunderland

I think it depends on what proportion of your vacation you want to spend in the car. the ride down the keys is lovely but I haven't found much of the rest of Florida particularly enjoyable. I would also look closely at your route both in terms of time and miles. Some very pretty routes are the slowest.
Personally, I think three places, Miami, the Keys and Orlando are enough over 14 days. I have driven from West Palm to Orlando and IMO it is a long and boring drive, Depending on traffic, Miami can add another couple of hours. |

Getting Excited
|
Hi,
We drove down to the Keys in 2015 our itinerary was as follows:- First Leg > Orlando To Bradenton 1 night stop-over Second Leg > Bradenton to Naples 2 night stop-over Third Leg > Naples to Key West (traveled through Everglades stopped for an air boat ride) 2 nights Key West Fourth Leg > Key West to Fort Myers 1 night stop-over Fifth Leg > Fort Myers to Orlando Much depends on what you like really, if I was pushed probably would have spent an extra night at Bradenton to do more exploring AMI and etc. What I would say the journey down the Gulf coast got us interested in going back because we loved it. We stayed in Cape Coral last year and are going back again this year, can't really see us staying anywhere else now. I would strongly recommend a trip down that west coast loads to see and do am sure you will not be disappointed. |

Last year we did Orlando (five nights), Fort Lauderdale (1 night), Key West (3 nights), Naples (1 night) and AMI (five nights). In hindsight we could have easily have driven from Orlando to Key West in one go and got an extra night in the Keys. We flew into and out of Tampa so did a complete circle, if the OP is flying into and out of MCO then ending up in AMI would make sense as it's only a couple of hours to the airport.

Thanks everyone, it certainly looks as though we could cover the areas we're interested in. I just need to work out the best places to stay now and then get that countdown in place.
Thanks very much. |
