Possibly, but Volcano Bay has the tapu tapu. It's only an RFID - which anyone can produce - in a band. It's all the extra stuff that's needed that hikes up the cost.

Disney reportedly spent an estimated $1 billion over the years developing all the hardware and software to go with it. Googled Universal magicband and there's loads of articles over the past year or so, about the question but no definitive answer. We can but hope I suppose.

We stayed club level on 25 August for 3 days - we checked in breakfast time were given the room keys as our FOLP and we all got one so we could access the club floor via swiping the room key in the lift / fast pass etc. Then got a text at 4pm when our room was ready - brilliant new system so much better than the awful pictures.

We looked it much so much more than RPR as my kids are teenagers it was such a cool hotel we would love to return there!

Excellent. Are they still including HP rides in Express? If so what is open in the extra hour before opening?

Yes, HP is still Express, so almost everything is Express. Don't see the point of the extra hour now, we didn't use it this year.

Great they are getting rid of those paper Express passes that start falling apart in the heat and sweat. Staff don't even check them against the photo anyway. This year I went on several rides using my wifes pass as I gave up trying to work out whos was whos.

we checked into HRH August Wed 23rd August and where told the system chnaged to room keys the day before

much simpler

##dont shoot me down## as we left on the friday @16:00 we spotted a clearly british family on the way in & i asked if they had express passes, which they didnt, so we gave them our keycards to use for the rest of the day... can only assume they had no probs using them? just spreading the joy :-)

Are you not forgetting you can still charge to your room, even after checkout. I think its all the way up to 11:59pm on checkout day. Same as Disney.
We have confirmed this with reception as sometimes we have left our bags with bell and gone back to the parks, charging to our account.
I know you have a PIN, but still, not worth the risk. I wouldn't hand my credit or debit card to a stranger.

As mentioned above. This isn't new. It's what Universal used to do many years ago before adding the photo machines.

It sounds like Universal have reverted to the old system whilst waiting for the new facial recognition system to come online (see here). Although they were testing that over 6 months ago so there must still be a few teething problems.

It's one card per person.

This makes perfect sense to me, no more waiting in lines snapping grainy pictures, room key drop bags DONE!
Anyone know when this change happened?
We checked in on 23rd August 2017 at HRH in the morning and the check in lady told me that the system had changed that morning. I agree that it's much easier without the photo thingy

When we used our hotel fp on doctor doom we had our picture taken at the ride to link your hotel fp to your face. Women said it's a new feature they are trying.
