She had to contact UCAS and the two universities to see if it was acceptable to them but it was changed as soon as she did so. She is very pleased she did so, as she spends more time at home than living away as she prefers this and for her second year will probably commute from her family home instead of living away, this wouldn’t have been possible at her original first choice uni
Thank you that’s helpful x

Durham are notoriously slow at sending out offers! My DD is in her first year at Durham studying physics and didn’t get her offer until the end of January, whereas some were waiting until March.

What does your DS want to study?

Hope you get an offer from Durham soon. Both DD and I went there (many years apart) and loved the place

He wants to study Natural Science - Joint honours Chemistry and Physics. Durhams own website says they take an average of 3 months to respond!

I hope he gets an offer too - it was his favourite. I keep telling him he'll like wherever he goes as he liked all the open days but Durham would be great.

That sounds about right! Which college is he applying to? DD is at St Mary’s which is right next to the science site, so very handy.

Many congratulations to all those with offers, and the very best of luck to those still waiting.

It does make me smile when I see people getting impatient at waiting for a few weeks - have some sympathy to those who apply for any kind of performing arts. My daughter studied musical theatre. Music/theatre/dance courses always require at least one, sometimes two or even three auditions before getting to an offer, which delays the whole process. On top of that some drama schools don't even start the process until after they've received all applications, so you could apply in October but not audition until April. The top drama schools receive about 200 applications for each place on their drama courses - compare that to the top medical schools with 5-10 applicants per place, or veterinary schools with 10. Yes, the academic requirements are a lot higher for that sort of thing but the odds of getting an offer, let alone a place, are much better.

It used to quite upset my daughter when her friends who'd applied for subjects such as history and maths had heard from all of their choices within a few weeks, sometimes getting five offers without needing to do a single interview. Still, she did get two offers from all her uni and drama school applications and auditions at the end of it all, which for musical theatre is a very good result.

After all that she then went on to become an English, drama and music teacher and now works in retail - but she has just been offered a professional acting role for next year
