Where to stay in Rome please?
Any recommendations on where to stay in Rome for a good base to explore on foot.
Not stayed there since 2002 and just remember a lot of walking, I know none of the attractions are close to each other so there's no one place that's good for all of them, but I'm finding it quite confusing trying to choose somewhere as a base. Any recommendations very welcome. Thank you

We stayed at the Alberto Cesari, located between the Pantheon and the Trevi fountain. Not a very large hotel but the location was perfect for sightseeing.

Stayed in the Mecure Centro Colosseo. Located about 300m from the colosseum and the metro. The view from the roof top terrace is spectacular. Rooms can be small so we went for a privilege room.

A colleague of mine who lived in Rome for 10 years recommended the Trastevere area to me. I haven't been yet (going next year) but she says it's not as touristy and is still close to everything. Apparently it's one of the areas that Romans like to eat and drink in.

Don’t stay at the Radisson Blu beds so uncomfortable if you could call it a bed - did not sleep for a week - staff very unhelpful

Would recommend the Mercure too. We loved the roof top pool. As we went in August we wanted somewhere with a pool. The views were amazing. We had a standard room which was more than big enough for the two of us. Location was brilliant. Wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.
