I have always been very much against indirect... but recent prices have been so stupid for direct I’m seriously considering it as an option now.

Would you consider flying out of Gatwick into Tampa? Netflights have direct flights with BA for £678 including luggage.

Do have a look at fly drive with VH, for my dates this is more than half the price of booking the flights with VA

Indirect really isn't that bad.As long as you get decent connect times so you aren't stressed. It's a no brainer with the prices you quoted.

I always said I’d never do indirect as I’d get stressed about connections etc, but did it this year for the first time after losing my Thomas Cook holiday & rebooking anything available for the same dates (it was just over a week before we went) & I have to say it was pretty good! I really liked having the flight back split - it didn’t seem half so long. I’d definitely go indirect again after such a good experience.

I did indirect this year because of Dorian, flew via Atlanta and it was simple and easy so if it is a considerable saving then grab it

Because we live in Cork in the South of Ireland we have nearly always flown indirect. Mainly Shannon and stop in Philly, though we have been in Chicago and for the second time this year JFK. We actually kind of like it. Assuming the change of planes isn't too long, we stop stretch the legs maybe have some food or drinks. We do have the advantage of pre clearance so its just like changing buses really. In terms of cost unless your lay over is huge this is a no brainer

My wife prefers indirect as long as we have enough time ideally to get a meal

No brainer for me.. indirect as with decent layovers I prefer them in any case before I even consider the savings and opportunities to exploit multi city vacations... ideally 3 hours going out and 1 coming back and through Atlanta.

It is a wonderful feeling when you walk straight through MCO immigration to baggage reclaim whilst the queue that you have avoided is clearly going to take hours. It is even better when (as we do), you are hand baggage only and you then walk straight through baggage reclaim and out the door.
I cleared MCO from air bridge to taxi in just 20 minutes this August when flying in from Cincinatti.

In my case, coming up from Cornwall, indirects are also generally from LHR whilst directs are from LGW, which is over an hour further to drive each way. This is clearly another advantage.

Travelling from my door in Falmouth to The concourse outside of MCO and then vice versa, I am very confident that I could do it quicker by indirect than I could by direct.

The money saved also comes in rather handy!

in direct does not worry me, I have collected the car in mco quicker via Detroit than direct and not having to deal with the shambles of immigration at mco!

My first choice is direct Gatwick to tpa or fll, indirect after that.
