ring doorbell

Never really thought about home cctv etc but in recent months due to increased incidents have now decided to take the plunge. Have set up one of the ring cam stick ups already and am pleased but now thinking of a ring doorbell, only thing I’m concerned about is wifi reaching through a 2 door porch (i.e. inner door and outer door), anyone have a similar set up for their ring doorbell and what’s the better to attach it to, brick or upvc frame?

Thanks

My friend recently installed one, onto the PVC doorframe...she said it was so easy... she gets alerts on phone if there is any movement...she got one the other day, and saw her car rocking... a DPD driver had knocked her car with his van...she went running out to it and said, you’ve just hit my car...there was a white gouge at contact...he tried denying it...but she had it all on film!

Not a similar set up, but our Ring doorbell is around 3 years old and we have thick brick walls that, when we were with BT broadband, hindered our Wifi connection around the house, including the doorbell. Since switching to Sky (who strangely use BT...) it's not been an issue and the doorbell has been fine.

There is a big recall on Ring doorbells but before people panic it's not Europe just America that's affected.

Good kit.

We have a ring doorbell, BT WiFi and no problem with the signal going through two doors.
We used it to prove that a bathroom company had picked up two toilets for return and therefore should refund my money! They were alleging that no pick up had happened,( Covid-19, so no paperwork left) the ring doorbell video proved otherwise. That saved us a few bob!

If you get an issue in connecting them, there is a fairly simple fix. You have to switch off the 5Ghz wifi (just leaving 2Ghz on) to connect the Ring device (or other similar devices) and then just re-enable 5Ghz.

Lots of how to's on Youtube etc as it was quite a common issue with older routers on all broadband supplers.

the recall is related to people using the wrong screws and they are telling people to check and use the correct screw.

As for the question it should not be an issue on the door. If you want to check then just ensure your phone is connected to your wifi and and stream a bbc program and walk out the door, if it does not stutter you should be OK.
If you have issues get a wifi extender. I recently bought " Xiaomi WiFi Repeater Pro 300Mbps Mi " for £9.50 from Ali express (uk retailers available) and my signal now extenders much further.

We have the ring doorbell 3 and it's the same setup as you, no problems at all with the virgin broadband.
Yesterday I installed a ring floodlight cam above my garage looking down my drive and that picked up my wifi no problem, the video quality is excellent especially the night mode, the list price on ring is £250 but I got it from another supplier for £188, well worth it.

Ring are usually in Black Friday / Cyber Monday sales at the end of this month so worth waiting for those if you can.
