1 is it easy to drive there
2 is a day long enough
3 is the beach good

I can answer Q1 - we drove from Orlando (Buena Vista) to Daytona Beach in around an hour. A really easy drive.

But when we went a couple of years ago, the weather was not great so the place was deserted, it was like a run down ghost town, it seemed quite dilapidated along the beach area.

I am sure this is not a true reflection, so am hoping you get some reassuring answers.

We did a day trip here some years back and loved it. We just did it as a beach day though and drove up early, parked on the beach with a picnic and had fun in the waves. It was an easy drive as far as I remember.

WE had 4 days there and stayed on the beach as a base to visit St Augustine (wouldnt do that again) then The Daytona Race Track.
I was initially worried about homeless drug/drunks, being run down etc. However it was lovely. We walked from hotel to resteraunts nice and easily. The beach was lovely. We were within walking distance of the pier but it was never crowded. Very clean and very calm warm waters.
