I am off on Tuesday for a week. I have breakfast and will take about €350 in bahts plus about another 200€ in cash. I don’t drink nor do fancy restaurants.

DS said that his daily food spends when he went to Ko Phi Phi and Ko Lanta was about €10 a day!

Where in Thailand are you going? We’ve just got back from our trip and visited Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Koh Samui. Koh Samui was about double the price of everywhere else so depending on the island you may need a bit more! Also depends what you want to eat etc. If you are going to go to local restaurants / eat street food you’ll spend less. If you go to tourist centred restaurants you could be spending the same there as you would at home!

We are in Bangkok for 3 days and Koh Samui ( bo phut )for 11 days and hoping to sample a bit of everything food wise. I was thinking of trying to save £1000 each, would that be too much ?

That would be more than enough, we took just over £1000 for the two of us for two weeks and came home with money, but we only spent 4 nights on Koh Samui, if we were spending longer we would have spent more. I won’t beat around the bush but it is expensive, a lot of the restaurants end up costing a normal meal amount (I.e around £30 for a main meal and drinks for two people) so if you are eating out every night it will mount up. But you’d still have more than enough with your spends. Enough for presents as well. We didn’t come across a lot of street food on Koh Samui (certainly not like you do everywhere else in Thailand) but it’s worth trying if you do.

There was a lady that boated up to the beach every day and did skewers, corn on the cob, fresh fruit etc. Which was great (and super cheap!) so we tended to do that for lunch!

The island is beautiful just be aware that it’s not as cheap as other places in Thailand! You will have a great time though.

Thank you for taking the time to reply, I found it very helpful. Think I will aim to take the amount I said, id rather take too much then not enough, especially with Koh Samui being more expensive.

Hi
We took for a family of 4 £750 with bed and breakfast. And we ate at some lovely places. We booked excursions on a credit card though for protection. Hope that helps this was for 11 nights.
