Don't send many cards full stop now (birthday or christmas) I only send to those who would be offended if I didn't.
Also don't make a big thing about gifts. To us spending time together and enjoying each other's company is far more important than "stuff". Doesn't mean that we have lost the spirit of christmas, just don't buy into the consumerist side.

I might be able to do that!
I have booked the whole of Christmas off! I can’t wait 🎉
This hasn’t happened in about 10 years!

I do care the some people seem to think it is acceptable to condemn the choice I and others have made in sending electronic Christmas messages.

We do not do this because we are lazy, tight or liars who claim to donate but don't.

We send Christmas messages this way because it is our choice.

My family decided to donate the money we previously spent on cards and postage as an alternative way to spread the Christmas message of Peace and Joy and mention this in our electronic Christmas messages. We, like most people, do donate throughout the year.

And the suggestion to send a picture of a roast dinner to Mary's Meals was tasteless.

Have a peaceful Friday
I think it is a bit of a stretch to say anyone has “condemned” anyone else. But no, some don’t like electronic greeting cards. I don’t. I honestly would rather somebody didn’t bother at all than send me an electronic card. I am as entitled to that opinion as you are to yours.

I don’t understand why anyone feels the need to say that they are making donations instead of sending cards. There is no need to boast about charitable donations. I also think it is mainly an excuse, I haven’t sent cards for a couple of years but I don’t feel the need to make up excuses for it.

AT a bit of a tangent, my DS who stayed in his uni town and now in his twenties, never sends me or his father a card for anything and I have to be honest it hurts like mad. To those who don’t give cards, it may not be important to you, but maybe have a little think about if it’s important to the recipient? I always have a little cry on mother’s day, in facti think I have something in my eye actually writing this now x

I agree with this - my FiL always makes a huge fuss about cards being a waste of money and seldom buys a card even for his wife.

I have often had to bite my tongue when she is once again presented with a card where Christmas has been crossed out and Birthday handwritten over it - her birthday is 28th January!
MiL is a saint to have put up with him for as long as she has - she still ensures all her children/grandchildren receive cards, even though she has to suffer hours of verbal abuse for "wasting" money.
This year I refused to send him a card for his birthday or father's day - he's NOT my Dad (told DH to sort it himself if he wanted to send one) . I did ensure MiL received cards though and on our most recent visit home he commented that he'd felt forgotten! Told him he wasn't forgotten but since he'd always said we shouldn't bother we hadn't.

I love to send/receive cards and as we live thousands of miles from most of our family it is a nice reminder that we are connected. We Skype regularly with our closest family members but it's impossible to keep up with more distant family in so many different time zones and stages of life.

That's the reason I send cards to certain people, because otherwise they would be hurt.

My Mum for one, however she knows that we really don't like cards (I'd honestly never mind if I didn't ever get any) but she insists on sending them to us (even my husband who really hates them) because SHE would feel wrong if she didn't. I don't get that, surely the consideration goes both ways.

We send a mixture. We have around 120 people to send Christmas Cheer to and over half are abroad. The cost of cards and postage overseas is ridiculous, so we send electronic cards to quite a few on our list. We do design the card ourselves though.

For other people we post a card to them, each one is personalised with short message. It takes us quite while to do the cards, but we love doing them, all part of Christmas happiness to us. The children will colour in cards to send to family and friends.

We receive quite a lot of cards as many are from ex/current clients as well as family and we display them all.

I see nothing wrong with electronic cards. Buying a card and postage can add up to a lot of money. I am just happy people have remembered us.

I don’t like cards, giving or receiving sorry. It does seem like a chore and I send and receive a handful only..(as not to upset people)
Each to their own though, I don’t think any less of those who do and I don’t expect others to think any less of me👍😊

I might be in the minority here but I don't need a birthday card from my husband because I live with him- he can tell me in person rather than writing it down!

Blimey MH, you'll be well unimpressed with me then 25th Dec is simply the day that makes me another year older. Apart from ma and pa (she likes it) no cards sent, or received, which is fine. We view it as pure commercialism... but for those that do, enjoy
