We used to have this problem with my son, plus he hated school so on the mornings he was okay going to school, we just went at his pace and went to school when he was ready. Sometimes not getting there until 10, school were okay with this but by year 7 he hated school so much I decided on homeschooling ( before that we did flexi schooling, part time school part time at home)

I have recently been considering looking into Home schooling as we appear to have constant issues 🙈 ds is in main stream high school he’s academically very bright but lacks focus once he loses interest ! Constant trouble with being late for class despite me asking for some help for him as moving about all day he gets confused and loses track of time always late getting dressed after pe and moving onto other classes etc plus detentions for lack of homework as once he gets home his meds have worn off and he switches off and then the adhd kicks in so he can’t settle for long enough to do the homework 🙈
Can anyone assist with how I would start looking into this? |

If he has a statement you will have to write to your local education authority so you can de-register him from the school, also inform the school. If he doesn’t have a statement you can just inform the school and take him out of school and begin home education. There are lots of home-Ed groups about ( go on Facebook or google and search in your area)
If he has a statement the LEA will still do yearly educational reviews, so keep a diary of what you do daily (nothing big), keep work to show etc, nothing to worry about though first review is nerve wracking. Any more questions please ask away.

I’ve just had a quick google thanks it’s all very interesting although hubby isn’t that keen at the minute but I can see he’s not tested enough with the school work and despite constantly having meetings with school nothing appears to change. The biggest test appears to be getting himself to class on time and homework 🙈 personally I think with a fair amount of planning it would make life easier in the long run but hubby is the stay at home parent so would be mostly in charge of ensuring the work got done at home.
Ultimately though I think once I’ve done some proper research I will get ds involved and see what he thinks as although he does have some friends at school he doesn’t socialise outside of school which is his choice |

Hope things improve for you, we looked into homeschooling but I don't think ds would tolerate it. We are looking into different opportunities at school, ie outsourcing to college etc for certain lessons which they are refusing to do at present but we are taking it further with cyps support as soon as he gets another case worker

Hi, we had the same issues with our Dd. She has never slept well from birth, diagnosed Aspergers aged 13 finally after years of waiting. She has had numerous tests plus overnight hospital stay in sleep clinic but still has no answer for the terrible waking dreams she has. She was prescribed Melatonin but that didn’t help, we have no tv, electronic devices rule before bed. I’ve tried aromatherapy massage, diffuser with oils, meditation and laying with her reading and chatting (she’s nearly 15 now) and she can be happy and relaxed before going to sleep then have the worst night ever. She’s frightened of the dark and has fairy lights around her room plus her light is dimmable and she can change the colour. I was advised by Cerebra (sleep specialists) to choose red as this wouldn’t interfere with sleep but every morning I know she’s slept bad as her light is on full white.
I took her out of Secondary school at the start of Year 9 as she had become so ill, she was so tired in the mornings and refused to eat and drink because she felt sick and on top of this she was just not coping in the school environment. She became suicidal, lost continence due to not drinking, lost weight and had the most horrendous meltdowns. In our situation home schooling has been a major turning point, yes she still has very poor sleep but we start her schooling later in the day if she’s had a bad night and we have a big emphasis on getting outdoors to the nature reserve and doing Yoga etc. Wishing you well. X
