Original Marriage Certificate
Hi guys,
We got married on October 3rd in Orlando and have just received our marriage certificate in the post this week. We are a bit concerned as it is only a certified copy and places like our banks say they will not accept a certified copy only an original on their websites so we are expecting issues. Did anyone who got married out there have this problem (nationwide and HSBC are the banks) or as it was a foreign cert was it ok? Thanks James

It doesn’t matter where you get married the original is always kept at the court house or civic centre over here. I had no problems at all with my copy. I’m sure it had a green stamp on and a signature to say it was a certified copy the bank didn’t bat an eyelid

Oh ok thanks, we have a few friends who have married in Orlando and they have all told us they have their original (some living there some here) so that’s where our concern stems from.

I’m sure if you checked it will just be a certified copy so in future if you lose it and have to ask for a copy they have it. You can only get copies from the court house who holds your certificate. That’s why I paid an extra few dollars for a few copies when we got married. Even birth certificates say certified copy on the top no one I know has ever had an original

We only ever had the certified copy. Ours had an official red stamp, although that may have changed since perhaps.
I've sent off coloured copies over the years to change my name on various things. Never had a problem with any. The original isn't embossed or anything so the coloured copy looks the same I doubt any one here would know the difference. |

They are quite boring compared with UK ones but provided it is stamped its what the bank require.
I had the stupidest conversation at my doctors , they complained it had my previous name on it and didn't said was now Mrs X. I pointed out UK Certs don't either. They just say that Mr X married Miss Y. |

We got married in the UK, when we went into DW's bank they were more interested in hearing about the event / checking out the ring than looking at the certificate.

Thanks all! Well DW took the certificate into the bank today and apparently had no issues whatsoever, so that’s good news. Again thanks for the advice
