Travel Insurance - Family Pre Existing Conditions

Hi all,

We have a trip booked next year to take our DS who will be 4.

My MIL has terminal cancer (10 years diagnosed) and yesterday had a scan result showing that the latest bout of treatment isnt working as well as expected. They will start another form in the new year so hopefully that will work better.

As we have spent so much on the holiday we are obviously wanting to cover all situations. We have insurance through our bank (Barclays) but that wont cover us if we need to cancel/return early as its a pre-existing condition.

My MIL isn't coming with us on the trip but we want to look at options of taking out a policy that will give us the peace of mind that we will be insured to recover the cost of the holiday if we have to cancel before we go/return early if we recieve a dreaded phone call.

Does anyone recommend any companies that offer such insurance where you can state family members who aren't travelling have pre-existing conditions that might cause you to cancel/return early?

Woody, I’ve recently had experience of having to check our insurance when my mom became ill, I found we weren’t covered on the policy I’d bought and ended up cancelling it and taking cover with All Clear insurance, what they said was if we need to cancel they would ask my moms Dr if when we booked our holiday could he have foreseen my mom becoming ill and us needing to cancel, the answer would be no as her illness was new and not linked to anything pre existing, not sure if this helps you at all, but it’s a bit of a mine field x
