W-8BEN form

Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone else has received a W-8BEN tax form? I called member services as it wasn't clear how to fill it out. They essentially said just to put my name and address on it as I don't have an ITIN.

I thought that so long as any rental income doesn't come from a US source, i.e. in UK, you only pay UK tax not US tax too?

Can anyone please confirm this as it's got me worried!

I have heard of others receiving these, Did you buy on finance, I read that was often a trigger- also read they did a random sample. I also read people just binned it and heard nothing further, albeit I do not speak from personal experience.

Not on Finance. Joined last year. The accounting CM seemed to suggest it's a random selection of members and for their reporting records for IRS. He said just to fill out the name and address section.

Looking at the other threads it does seem random and also unrelated to renting points out.

Will fax it off and hopefully will hear nothing else about it. As far as I knew we pay tax only in the UK unless from a US source, which will never be the case. Different from villa owners where the income comes from a US management company.

If you just binned it, how would DVC knew it made its way across the Atlantic if you didn’t ring them up, I don’t get half the Disney Files.

That's true, i'm just a natural worrier. I'm sure they would have said something at the time of sale though if all DVC owners abroad had US taxes to pay.

I'll worry if i send it that i've triggered something off and worry if i don't send it! 😂

We received one and didn’t really understand it so just left it. Then a year or so later we got another one sent to us but a covering letter told us we had to complete this within a timeframe as it had to be on file for the IRS.

We were about to head off to Florida so we took it with us and the DVC rep at AKL helped us and they posted it off and thankfully we never heard anymore about it.

We didn’t have much to complete, I think it was name, address putting in United Kingdom rather than UK, date of birth and then sign it.
