Tokyo help please

Hi, my parents have a cruise booked that ends in Yokohoma, Tokyo, and would like to spend a couple of nights in Tokyo city before returning to UK. (I am hoping to pay for the hotel as a gift)

Can anyone recommend any hotels or places to visit that are of interest in Tokyo (gardens, historic places etc) they are young 70’s. I have no idea where to start! They might do one day in Sealand.
Any tips from any dibbers who have been please? As in best district to stay, getting around what not to miss? Thanks!

I found the most interesting places were beyond Tokyo. Kyoto and Hiroshima are worth visiting - easy journeys by train.

In Tokyo we visited a street market, a pagoda and a large Buddhist temple complex where we were lucky enough to see a wedding ceremony. I can’t really think of any major “tourist attractions” in Tokyo.

Sorry, not much use !

One of my biggest regrets of my time in Japan is that I didn't manage to visit Hakone. It's about 90 minutes by train from Tokyo and once there you can spend a couple of days using the Hakone Free Pass (not free, despite its name, but only about £35 iirc) traveling around. There are shrines, onsen (hot springs), museums, but most importantly amazing views of Mt Fuji. Have a look into it and see if this is the sort of thing your parents would be interested in. It's definitely on my list for next time!

If you're dead set on them staying in Tokyo, my only advice is to remember that the city is HUGE. Like, really, really massive. There's no one central area, and although the subway trains are super efficient they can be confusing if you're not too confident navigating around, and it can easily take up to an hour to move from one area of Tokyo to another. I stayed in a hostel in Chuo, not far from Tokyo Station with the rationale that this must mean it's very central! Even though I didn't have any problems getting around from here using the trains, there was also nothing tourist-y of interest in the immediate vicinity/withing walking distance.

Edit: realised whilst typing this out that I have a lot more to say on Tokyo than I expected so if you have any more specific questions let me know, otherwise I reckon I'll just end up typing out pages and pages of waffle.

The cruise takes them to Nagasaki, Kyoto (overnight) and to Mt Fuji so they will have seen some of those areas, I appreciate all of the above comments, very helpful and good to have things to research!
Thanks.

If it is any help I have found the following youtube video help: youtube/watch?time_c...&v=HYSMJ-lM2t0

From this we have decided that we will be definitely going to Ueno Park in the evening, Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, Akihabara area (maybe at dusk for the neon, plus we are electronics mad too). The kids want to go to a Maid cafe and im not too sure, that being said you MUST tell your parents to go (but dont explain what it is about), think of it as payback for making you eat sprouts as a child.
