Disappointed With Hertz at Tampa Airport

Really disappointed with Hertz at Tampa airport last Friday - although we got sorted with a car eventually it was a struggle and ended up wishing I'd have booked one of our normal go to models.

Booked a Cadillac Escalade or similar after having one with only 1,200 miles at xmas. Lovely car to drive so I ended up splurging for our last minute trip last week. Could have got a Suburban or Yukon for around half the price.

Got to the counter after a really long flight (headwinds with the storm last weekend) to be told ‘we have a lovely Infinity QX60 for you, 2019 model’. Err don’t think so, not only do we have six large suitcase and were planning on using 7 seats for the remainder of the holiday even though there was only 4 of us that night, they found us a Yukon XL which I wouldn’t have minded if it hadn’t of been half the cost. After about 1/2 hr of phone calls back and forth a QX80 was checked back in and if we wanted to wait while it was cleaned we could take that, didn’t have a lot of choice at that point but to be fair they would have pretty much let us have taken anything at that point that we’d have fit in.

What does everyone else do when they have to downgrade based on availability? I wish I could have just amended my booking to get a refund to the Suburban or Yukon and I’d have been happy but the website wouldn’t let me.

At least I know one thing now - I’ll never knowingly book the QX80, not in the same league or as nice to drive as the Escalade / Navigator even though similarly priced. Little bit worried about our August booking at MIA now.
