It’s a little long winded and this was for 2 of us on a one way upgrade, so here’s how it went.
We booked reward flights for this April using flying club miles but could only get 4 premium out and 2 premium & 2 economy return (I know, first world problems)

I’ve checked on and off over the last few months to see if the return opened up for a reward upgrade, and today it did 🤗, called flying club and got the option of either 10000 miles each + £120 tax or a premium upgrade split from spends on the virgin cc.

We opted for the split virgin cc upgrade (we get a few of these per year because we channel all our expenditures through it) so that was no loss really.

The real kicker was a refund of £28pp for reserving economy seats in the upper cabin that we had forgotten about on the original booking.

All in all, we have got return flights for 4 in premium for around £1250.

I didn't realise you could earn more than one in any 12 month period. Good to know.

You must have got lucky. I just queried Virgin Money about this and they said that you can only earn one voucher per account year.

Can I ask how you check how flights open up for a reward upgrade? Not seen anything obvious on line or is it a question of phoning?
