Without the 13 year old it would be a quick jaunt into town and a few beers in the 'Cheers" bar.

It is one of the closest airports to a major city center. You can easily visit any of the main attractions for a few hours. The subway is only a few stops from Faniuel Hall (like Covent Garden) for instance. What kind of things are you interested in?

We love history and food! I think a good museum then a chowder and Boston cream pie, I'm worried about leaving the airport though!

How does this work with security and check in, if you decide to leave the airport?
We've got a 5 hour layover so not long enough but if they happen to change flight times it might be a good idea to have an option other then hanging around the airport. |

You’ve got time to get to Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market for lunch, a bit of history and some shopping. These places are next to each other and you could easily spend a leisurely 4 hours.
It’s only about 5 miles from the airport, taxi or the subway but I find Boston airport large and busy and I’d allow a fair bit of time to get through it. Boston is a lovely place. |

As most others have said the airport is very close to the city centre by subway. Strange thing to remember but we got a $1 coin in our change from the ticket machine. First time we'd seen one.
It was about 10 years ago but I recall checking our cases in late morning and spent quite a few hours in the city. Lunch at the Salty Dog in Faneuil Hall Market Place. We had a late evening flight home. Mick
