Great photo! I thought it could have been a merlin at first but looking at the colours on the wings i d say juvenile female kestrel

If you go on the RSBP site you can put whatever bird your interested in and it will tell you a bit about them plus a record of their particular call. Quite facinating.

As others have said its a lovely looking common kestrel.
Jays are basically better looking magpies and wouldn't have had those talons. |

I know what a jay looks like, it was just my first thought when it caught my eye from a distance. As I got closer I soon saw that it was a bird of prey but I couldn't quite match it up with the pictires on the RSPB website.
It was great that everyone could tell me that it was still very young and confirm that it was a kestrel. Btw I don't have a smart phone, although that may have to change if we ever return to WDW. Edited at 10:25 PM. |
